    Distribution of Dairy Heifers to Second Generation Beneficiaries in Dzombo Ward.

    In a bid to improve household income and availability of food and nutrition security, the county government of Kwale has continued to distribute improved cattle to livestock farmers in the area.

    In Dzombo- ward LungaLuna sub-county Governor Fatuma Achani handed over 10 heifers to livestock farmers.

    Achani said that her administration targets the milk productivity from 2 liters per cow to at least 12 liters per cow in a day through the county project.

    Since 2013 during former governor Salim Mvurya leadership deputized by Achani the County Government of Kwale has been promoting dairy farming through distribution of in-calf heifers to selected livestock keepers across the County.

    A Norm, the primary beneficiary is required to hand over the first heifer to a secondary beneficiary from within the ward so as to spread the benefits to more beneficiaries.

    Addressing residents of Dzombo Ward during the issuance of second Generation Heifers, Governor Fatuma Achani said that her administration will continue to promote dairy farming through the distribution of dairy cows and goats to small-scale farmers.

    “Today we are giving out 10 heifers to 10 secondary beneficiaries with the goal to increase milk production, improve livelihoods, and reduce poverty for our people”. Achani Said.

    Dzombo Ward Farmers association chair Juliet Chaka, commended Achani’s administration on promoting Dairy farming project in Kwale County saying that since its inception in 2013, the project has transformed Dairy farmers in the County.

    She said that there has been evidently a number of economic benefits witnessed across the region.

    ” This is a noble project because it has revived the rural economy for our people who can now sell surplus milk they get from the dairy cows”. Chaka Said.

    Her sentiments were echoed by Joel Mutua a Dairy farmer from Dzombo Ward said that he is a living testimony on the dairy farming project from the county that has improved his livelihood through increased milk production”.

    ” I only used to get only 2 liters in a day from my kienyeji cows but I can now confirm after getting a heifer in 2016 from Kwale County Government milk production has increased from 2 litres per cow to 12 litres per cow thus transforming my life and that of my family economically. “Mutua said.

    The county government of Kwale distributes dairy cows and goats to small-scale farmers.
