Kwale County Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo has represented Governor Fatuma Achani in launching the second phase of the construction of the cabro-paved Blue Jay–Asins Road in Bongwe-Gombato Ward, Msambweni Sub-County.

The project will feature walkways, drainage structures to safely channel stormwater away from the road, and the installation of street lights along the road edges.

The road, which links Diani’s beachfront areas to the main Mombasa–Lunga Lunga Highway, is expected to bring significant benefits to the people of Diani and the wider Kwale County. These include improved accessibility and drainage, enhanced safety and mobility for motorists, pedestrians and other road users, as well as a better business environment. The project will also support the broader objective of making Diani and Kwale County more attractive for investment, tourism and economic activity.

So far, the Kwale County Government has constructed 17 roads within Diani Municipality, including Blue Jay–Bahari Dhow Road, Matumizi Road–Airport Road, Leisure–Leopard Road, Bidibabu Access Road and Kongo Access Road, among others.

Addressing residents at Mvumoni during the launch, Deputy Governor Kombo emphasized the commitment of Governor Achani’s administration to developing Kwale’s municipalities, including Lunga Lunga, Diani, Kwale and Kinango, by investing in quality infrastructure that drives economic growth and creates job opportunities for the people of Kwale.

“Our focus is to build modern infrastructure that connects our people to jobs, businesses, and better opportunities for a brighter future in Kwale,” said Deputy Governor Kombo.

Bongwe-Gombato Member of County Assembly (MCA) Tumaini Mwachaunga thanked the Governor for the project, saying that for development to reach residents at the grassroots level, it is essential for leaders to work together.

“If I were at odds with the Governor, we would not have achieved the development we are witnessing today,” he said.

Residents, led by Hamisi Mwachikuzi, praised the efforts of the Kwale County Government, noting that the new road will help ease traffic congestion in Ukunda town.

Present at the event were CECM for Tourism Michael Mutua, CECM for Lands Saumu Mahaja, Diani Municipal Chairperson Athman Bwika, Political Advisor Mshenga Ruga, directors, administrators and other county officials.

    END.
