The newly appointed Kenya Airforce Commander, Maj-Gen Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed is the first woman in the military in Kenya to achieve the rank of Major General.

She is the first Female Major General to Kenya Air Force and appointed as Commander.

The appointment of Maj- Gen Fatuma Haiti marks an important milestone and is seen as a promise fulfilled by President William Ruto in ensuring inclusivity, gender equity and effective leadership through women leadership.

Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has termed the appointment as an opportunity to engage and empower women on transformational leadership and governance.

Governor Achani also noted that the inclusivity of women serving in high ranking positions will amplify the voice of women on national and gender issues which will create a platform for networking, enhance transformational approach towards leadership and offer mentorship growth for young women and girls.

The election of seven women governors in 2022 was a testament to the changing narrative of leadership in Kenya, where women are seen and recognized as equal stakeholders in building the nation.

The Seven Women Governors in the country dubbed the G7 have launched a strategy to increase the number of female Governors from 7 to at least 16 in the next elections.

The Governors have called for support of women candidates in all elective positions to meet the constitution’s two-thirds gender rule.

“We as women should continue to stand by one another and celebrate the remarkable achievements we have attained since inception of devolution”, noted Governor Fatuma Achani.

Similarly, the appointment of Cabinet Secretaries saw ten women being appointed into positions, not only out of the constitutional right of the two thirds gender rule but as a sign of women empowerment and inclusivity in administrative positions.
