Joining form by Mwanajuma Athman Chidau at Kingwede girls has been a dream come true but not without challenges that almost left her broken at her Malalani in Ukunda home despite scoring 300 marks in the 2023 Kenya certificate of primary school exam.

Mwanajuma is among other bright needy girls who joined form one late after well-wishers stepped in partly while others continue to be at home for lack of school fees in Kwale County.

Coming from an impoverished background, her parents work menial jobs to help finance her primary school education.

It has been no easy feat but by God’s grace, we did it.

The young girl studied hard to join high school, hopeful that God will provide.

However, her young spirit could not handle seeing her former classmates dressed in new school uniforms while she was still at home with no hopes.

“I was feeling defeated and hopeless. I am motivated to study hard and go to University so that I can get a good job and change my family’s life,” she told Coast Times Digital.

Gathering funds has been a challenge for the family as her mother Mwanakombo Chidau explains, “My husband and I did not have the chance to complete formal education. This makes our access to opportunities for funds to be limited. We helped our girl apply for bursary but to our surprise, we did not qualify. We have run out of options now, we need help.”

Kwale county government is running a Sh500 million Elimu ni Sasa program that not only focuses on national school students but also county and extra county secondary school students fees as well as colleges and universities.

According to the family a mini-fund drive to quickly mobilize funds to get her admitted and secure her slot on the school was organized.

“We’ve managed 10,000 for tuition fees and got uniforms from well-wishers. Albeit late, we are grateful for the few that came through. We still have to help her complete the remaining balance so that her studies are not interrupted,” she narrated.

Described as a bright girl with always a smile on her face, Mwanajuma maintains her positive attitude despite the challenges, “I believe if I study hard, I can become successful and build my parents a beautiful home. I hope to one day become a journalist so that I can share stories like mine and inspire people.”

The total yearly fee is Sh40,000.

Jackeline Mureithi who helped fund raiser for the admission fees and uniform for Mwanjuma alongside her parents said that the family is not able to support her education because of their poor background calling for urgent support.

She called on well-wishers to come in and support the needy girl so that she can realize her dream by paying school fees.

Well-wishers to chip in for the remaining balance payable through the school’s Pay bill no. 522123 Acc. No 60543KMwanajuma4487,4487 is her admission number.

Let us start this year with a philanthropic cause!
