    Mombasa students on turning innovative ideas into viable business ventures

    Mombasa County hosted an Entrepreneurship Conference that is focused on helping students turn their innovative ideas into viable business ventures.

    The ABE Global club is an initiative by an educational organization based in the UK, Association of Business Executives that aims to develop skills in areas of entrepreneurship, innovation and business management.

    During their pilot programme in Mombasa county, they were able to reach 3 schools.

    Among the schools is Sheikh Khalifa whose initiative on turning waste into wealth won a voucher and a trophy.

    Ashak Momhammed, a form three student at Sheikh Khalifah had a project that is to help in having a clean environment.

    He explained that in his project proposes that when one disposes non-degradable waste into the bin and gets will be awarded money either through cash or Mpesa.

    “The project will not only help in having a clean environment but also create a source of income in the society,” he said.

    This being its 1st Annual Conference, ABE club has over 6000 students across Sub-Saharan Africa with almost 500 coming from Mombasa county.

    Kereesa Carrington-Nunez, the Director ABE CARICOM and Africa said that the event was one of its own being the biggest thing in engaging youths across Sub-Saharan Africa.

    “As a member of the ABE Club you not only get a degree but also global support into starting your business,” she added.

    Mombasa county Education executive member Mbwarali Kame, said that they are looking into signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the ABE club to ensure that both private and public students benefit from the initiative.

    The ABE program that supports innovation is aimed at ensuring that youths do not indulge in risky activities in Mombasa.
