In a vibrant display of community spirit and civic responsibility, The Rophine Field Group of Schools hosted its annual Mashujaa Day Family Walk in Diani, Kwale County.
The event successfully mobilized local residents, parents, and learners to raise funds for purchasing essential medical equipment for the pediatric wards at Msambweni county referral Hospital .
The charity walks, organized under the theme “Play Together, Give Together, and Change Together,” featured two distinct routes to accommodate all participants: a rigorous 15-kilometre course for adults and a shorter 5-kilometre path tailored for children.
Securing Future Generations
According to the school’s management, investing in early healthcare infrastructure is a direct contribution to the sustainability and well-being of future generations.
The educational institution has committed to a long-term partnership with the Kwale County Government to continuously uplift both the health and education sectors within the region.
The Rophine Field Group of Schools CEO, Dr. Boniface Owiti, said that the primary focus of the fundraiser is to acquire specific equipment for the pediatric wing, including wheelchairs and thermoguns.
"We are doing this because healthcare is our area of interest, and it is where our learners are able to resonate very well because those are the people they deal with on a daily basis," Dr. Owiti stated.
With the event being the third edition hosted by the Diani Campus and the 17th edition overall for the broader group of schools the institution has established a strong history of supporting Msambweni County Referral Hospital, leaving a lasting impact on local medical care.
A Community United
The corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative drew immense praise from local parents, who commended the school for actively bridging the gap between the institution and the wider community.
"I have been in Diani for more than 25 years, and I can tell you that Rophine Field Group of Schools is really a game-changer," said one participating parent Valerine Ochieng Opondo."We are proud when we go to Msambweni Hospital and see equipment branded with Rophine. As parents, we feel deeply connected to this CSR and society in general."
The walk also showcased remarkable individual determination, featuring a two-and-a-half-year-old pupil who completed the 15-kilometre walk alongside her parents.
Reflecting the student body's enthusiasm, Risa Matende, a Grade 8 student and speaker for the Diani Campus, expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to give back.
"As a person, I feel very grateful to participate because I am helping people who are in need in our community," Matende said.
Through the collaborative effort, the Diani community demonstrated that honoring national heroes on Mashujaa Day can go hand-in-hand with active, lifesaving community development.
