Ndavaya residents have every reason to smile after Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani and her Deputy Chirema Kombo launched the Construction of Nzephu Dam project in Ndavaya Ward, Kinango Sub-County.
Over 250 households from villages of Nzephu and Kambingu in Ndavaya Ward are expected to benefit from the project.
The Flloca led project in partnership with the County Government will include a water tower, solar-powered pumping system, perimeter fencing, water points, and livestock watering troughs.
Already the governor Achani led administration has drilled more than 100 boreholes in Matuga and Msambweni sub-counties.
Also over 70 small and medium-sized dams in Lunga Lunga and Kinango sub-counties hsve been put up as part of efforts to enhance access to clean and safe water.
Speaking during the event, Governor Achani emphasized that her administration is doing everything possible to ensure that residents of Kwale have access to clean and safe water.
“This project will not only provide water for domestic use but will also support farming and livestock keeping, thereby improving food security and household incomes,” said Governor Achani.
Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo lauded the project, saying it demonstrates the county government’s commitment to building climate-resilient communities through sustainable water management initiatives.
“This project is an investment in the future of our people. By increasing water availability, we are creating opportunities for economic growth, improved agricultural productivity, and a better quality of life for residents,” said Kombo.
Ndavaya MCA Beja Mwauchi thanked the county government for initiating the project and urged residents to safeguard it to ensure value for money and long-term benefits for the community.
Mlanda Mwakupha one of the resident set to benefit from the project expressed gratitude to the county government for undertaking the project, noting that water scarcity has been a longstanding challenge in the area.
“Water shortage has made it difficult for our children to attend school regularly, as many families spend considerable time searching for water,”she added
