Cabinet Secretary in charge of Health Susan Nakumincha has put on notice contractors managing the Managed Equipment Service (MES) scheme.

Nakumicha sent a stern warning to the contractors saying they risk having their contracts withdrawn if equipment under their care is found not functioning properly.

“For contractors overseeing the leased medical equipment, it is absolutely imperative that you keep them in peak condition. Failure to do so could lead to contract terminations if the equipment falls short in our hospitals,” she said.

Nakhumicha’s resounding call to action reverberated through the audience, highlighting the critical need to maintain equipment quality for the sake of public health services.

Speaking during cancer awareness day at Msambweni referral hospital, the CS didn’t mince her words, accusing certain contractors of compromising healthcare standards for citizen.

“Especially the one managing the dialysis machine, only two out of five are functioning in Msambweni hospital. Ensure all are now in operation before we terminate your contract,” she said.

While emphasizing the national government’s commitment to delivering top-tier healthcare, Nakhumicha commended the 1,670 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in Kwale, who received essential kits to provide community health services.

She urged them to act swiftly and refer patients to hospitals after providing initial assistance.

Nakumincha was joined by Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, and prominent political figures from Kwale County, including Governor Fatuma Achani.

Nakhumicha and the team launched a slew of crucial projects at the Msambweni Referral Hospital.

The projects included a new female ward, a state-of-the-art drug store, a cutting-edge BOC oxygen tank and plant, a reverse osmosis machine, and other vital initiatives.

Governor Achani made a passionate plea to healthcare workers at the referral hospital, urging them to make use of the available equipment.

“Our commitment is to ensure that the residents of Kwale receive nothing less than exceptional healthcare services,” she said.
