The battle for the Kwale gubernatorial seat has taken a dramatic turn following an ultimatum issued by Coast political veteran and Mijikenda spokesperson, Chirau Ali Mwakwere.

    The Two-Week Ultimatum

Mwakwere has directed former Agriculture Principal Secretary Prof. Hamadi Boga to officially name his 2027 running mate within the next two weeks. Failure to do so, Mwakwere warned, will force him to step in and make the declaration himself on behalf of the region’s leadership.

According to Mwakwere, several high-profile names are already on the table to fill the position if Engineer Lung’anzi Chai Mangale fails to commit to the joint pact.

Insiders privy to the deliberations hint that nominated MCA Khadija Ngala is currently the frontrunner to deputize Boga.

    Cracks in the Alliance

The stern reaction from the Mijikenda spokesperson comes amid rising political tension and unconfirmed reports that Lung’anzi Chai intends to break away to launch a standalone bid for the top county job.

The unexpected friction threatens a highly anticipated political truce.

Months ago, the two formidable opponents—who fiercely contested the 2022 elections—publicly resolved to bury the hatchet.

They agreed to form a unified, single-ticket front to consolidate their votes and effectively unseat the incumbent Kwale Governor, Fatuma Achani.

The Scramble for the Duruma Vote

The latest political maneuvering highlights an intensifying scramble for the populous Duruma voting bloc, which political strategists view as the ultimate swing vote in the county.

Analysts suggest that the choice of running mate will heavily dictate regional balance and either cement or break opposition unity.

With the two-week clock ticking, all eyes remain on Prof. Boga and Engineer Lung’anzi to see if their fragile coalition will survive the escalating pressure or collapse ahead of the 2027 general election.

However  Lung’anzi team have insisted they will go for nothing less than Govenorship position.
