In a major push to boost local economies and self-reliance, Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani has distributed a wide range of business tools, fishing gear, and sports equipment to youth, women, and community groups in Bongwe Gombato Ward, Msambweni Sub-County.

The distribution drive, held at Mwamambi B, targeted several local organizations, including the Gombato Mwakongo Women’s Group, Darling Boda Boda Stage, Pamoja Youth Group, Wazee Mwachdafu, and N’ngori Dance, alongside regional Beach Management Units (BMUs).

The diverse consignment of business tools features electric washing machines, professional washers with integrated dryers, car-washing machines, desktop computers paired with printers, and public address systems.

For the local coastal economy, the administration supplied vital marine equipment to the BMUs. The fishing gear includes fish display boxes, advanced fish finders, seaweed tie-ties, ropes, handlines, and high-specification 4-inch and 5-inch gill nets.

Beyond business and maritime trade, the empowerment program extended to local culture and sports. Local football teams in Gombato received new sports gear, including match balls, while the Kwale County Choir was presented with official choir uniforms.

“We are committed to empowering our youths, women and fishing communities with the tools they need to create jobs, grow businesses and improve their livelihoods,” Governor Achani stated during the event.

“These tools are an investment in our people and should be used responsibly to generate sustainable income,” she added.

Bongwe Gombato Member of County Assembly (MCA) Tumaini Mwachaunga expressed gratitude for the county’s direct intervention, noting that the equipment provides immediate opportunities for residents to strengthen their financial well-being.

The Kwale County BMU Network Chairperson Suleiman Abdallah, led the beneficiary groups in lauding the governor’s approach.

Speaking alongside community representatives Ismael Mwamazuri and Saidi Mwatamu, Abdallah emphasized that the modern tools will allow local operators to scale up their daily operations, secure higher margins, and raise the general standard of living in Msambweni.

The hand-over ceremony was attended by a high-level county delegation, including County Attorney Salim Gombeni, Social Services CEC Francisca Kilonzo, Tourism CEC Michael Mutua, and Agriculture CEC Roman Shera, alongside several chief officers and local administrators.
