Rabai residents in Kilifi County have decried unhealthy medical services citing negligence and arrogance among health workers at Rabai Sub County Hospital.

Led by Dingo Mkuzi, they called on the county government of Kilifi to take action as the community feared for their lives in the hands of health workers.

“We thought upgrading this facility to a level 4 hospital will be a reprieve to Rabai residents, but this is not the case, services in this facility cannot be accessed beyond 5pm.” Claimed Mkuzi.

Speaking at the health facility he pointed that the community was forced to donate some cash to assist a child who had been burned to access emergency medication in a nearby private health facility.

Mkuzi noted that efforts by well-wishers to assist the child attended at Rabai Health Centers proved to be a hard nut to crack, with the medical officer in charge being out of his working station.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Lennox Ringa Mwabaya, who claimed that the health practitioner was in a drinking den, with efforts to reach the facility administrator bearing no fruits.

“We tried to get the attention of the hospital administrator but he rudely responded, making us wonder if we made the wrong choice to take our cry to him.” Claimed Mwabaya.

Rabai residents have vowed to make their voice heard to avoid more life loss, who claimed about 5 people have lost their lives at the facility as a result of what they say is negligence.

Kilifi county deputy governor, Flora Chibule, admitted having heard claims from local communities on negligence among sections of health workers in the facility.

Addressing the locals Chibule, warned drunk employees that they will face full force of the law, as the county was determined to make sure locals access better health services.

“This is not the first time I am hearing complaints, this will not be tolerated, and as we focus on improving infrastructure in the hospital we cannot have a few individuals dragging us behind.” Warned Chibule.

The deputy governor assured residents of Rabai that there will be a reshuffle of the health workers across the county Rabai Sub county hospital being among those to be affected.

Kilifi county CEC in charge of health services Peter Mwarogo, assured Rabai residents that plans are underway to bring sanity in the health department.

Mwarogo noted that the initiative dubbed “Huduma Mashinani” was aimed at ensuring the executive gets the real picture of what county staff are doing for the public.

“Discipline is key in ensuring and is a personal initiative, I can assure you that we will be taking some action immediately while others changes will be coming later.” Noted Mwarogo.
