Kwale High School has once again emerged as the best performing school in Kwale and third in the Coastal region.
Under the leadership of chief principal Michael Mutua, the school garnered 8.979 mean score in the 2023 KCSE exam following number two Sheikh Khalifa Secondary school which scored 9.42 and Light Academy that led with 10.2 mean score.
The school recorded a mean score of 8.979 points, an improvement of 0.59 from 2022 means score of 8.39.
The boys national school garnered a total of 3 As, 24 A-, 87 B+, 114 B, 88 B-, 27 C+ and 3 C with the majority of its 343 out of 346 students set to join universities.
The school has remarkably achieved a 99% transition rate to university as most of its candidates attained a mean grade of C+ and above.
Kwale county Elimu ni Sasa scholarship program that has supported thousands of students in the area being lauded as one of the reasons behind good results in secondary school.
The school’s chief principal, Michael Mutua attributed the school’s success to the hard work and dedication of its students, teachers and parents.
“We appreciate Governor Fatuma Achani for supporting students freely in secondary school because this success is part of that program and also CS mining Salim Mvurya for starting the Elimu ni Sasa program during his term in leadership. Matuga MP Kassim Tandaza has helped us a lot to get where we are today,” he told the media.
“We are very proud of our candidates for this remarkable achievement. They have shown that Kwale High School is a center of excellence and a beacon of hope for the whole region. We thank the teachers for their professionalism and commitment, and the parents as well for their unwavering support and cooperation,” he added.
Daniel Muasya the top student in Kwale Boys High school scored a grade A plain of 84 points followed by Brian Mumo Kitaka, who scored a grade A of 81 points and Bakari Nyondo Dingo followed closely with a mean grade A.
“I can’t believe the 84 points I got because I expected about 81 points. I am very happy and thankful to God for this result. It is a reward for my hard work and determination. I also thank my teachers, parents, and friends for their guidance and encouragement. I want to study medicine at the Nairobi University and become a doctor,” Daniel Muasya said.
Lemaron Kelvin Samanya expressed great joy over his mean grade A- results alongside his brother Lemaron Loongumok who scored a B- in the same school.
Kelvin said he was surprised by his performance and thanked everyone who encouraged him to stay focused and study for the national exams. He expressed his wish to study law at Kenyatta University and become a lawyer.
“I am still in shock. I did not expect to score such a high grade. I appreciate the efforts of my teachers, family and classmates for their support and motivation. I want to study law and fight for justice and human rights in society,” Kelvin said.
The Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu attributed this year’s good performance to improved quality of teaching as well as the reduced cases of exam irregularities.
The improvement of quality of education has been actualized in Kwale county by Governor Fatuma Achani’s efforts to collaborate with the Ministry of Education in development projects to improve the standards of education.
Her efforts have also seen that the county’s annual bursary funding increase from 400 million to 500 million to the benefit of high achieving students from needy backgrounds.
The KCSE 2023 results were released on January 8 2024 by the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
A total of 1,282,574 candidates sat for the exams where 825 male and 391 female students attained a mean grade of A plain countrywide.
A total of 788,121 candidates scored a mean grade of C+ and above in the KCSE 2023 exams representing 61.5% of the total number of candidates who sat for the exams.
This is the highest number and percentage of candidates who qualified for university admission in the history of KCSE.
Candidates are directed to check their results by sending their index number to 22252 from their mobile phone, or by visiting the KNEC portal. The candidates are also advised to visit their examination centers for their official results slip.
